
Mayor Appoints Raymond Cochran as interim BPD Deputy Chief of Patrol Operations
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin appointed Captain Raymond Cochran as the Interim Deputy Chief of Patrol Operations for the Birmingham Police Department.
The city said Cochran, a 36-year veteran of the department, has previously held roles as Commander of the South Precinct, Narcotics Division, Crimes Against Property Division, and the Tactical Operations Division. He most recently served as Acting Deputy Chief of Patrol Operations.

The city said Cochran is a veteran of both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom, having served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 29 years. He has completed multiple military leadership training courses and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Miles College.
Cochran's interim appointment is effective immediately. He joins the BPD command staff led by Chief Michael Pickett, which includes Deputy Chief of Administrative Operations Rodarius Mauldin, Deputy Chief of Investigative Operations Jeffrey Brown, and Interim Deputy Chief of Special Operations JaCorey Foster.
The city said Cochran's appointment comes in the wake of Deputy Chief Onree Pruitt's retirement. Additionally, Assistant Chief Edmond Hanks retired on May 30, and the city said that position will not be immediately filled.
