Hazing Policy
This policy applies to all students, student organizations, athletic teams, fraternities, sororities, clubs, honor societies, and any affiliated groups of Miles College. It also applies to faculty, staff, alumni, and volunteers when acting in advisory or supervisory capacities. Hazing is prohibited regardless of location (on-campus, off-campus, or online) or intent. Consent to hazing is not a defense and does not excuse participation.
Stop the Hazing Act Overview
Miles College is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. In accordance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) and Alabama law, the college prohibits hazing in any form and promotes transparency, prevention, and accountability across all student organizations, athletics, and campus activities.

- Article III.B.(2)a. – Hazing – All forms of hazing are prohibited under the University policy and constitute a violation of the Code of Student Conduct.
- Article III.B.(2)b. – Hazing Policy – Any definitions, requirements, and related terms in the University’s Hazing Policy are incorporated herein by reference.
- Article III.B.(2)b. – (prior to 08/2024) Knowledge of Hazing describes how failure to take appropriate action after becoming aware of hazing is a violation of the Code of Student Conduct.
- Article III.A.(4) – Published Policies establishes that violation of University policies, including the Hazing Policy, is an act of misconduct subject to sanctions found in Article V.D.
- Article III.B.(5) – Threatening Behavior describes how any threats to a person or property are not permitted.
- Article III.A.(1)a. – Acts of Dishonesty: False Information establishes that providing false information to UA officials or the office is also an act of misconduct.
- Article III.E.(9) – Failure to Comply with Sanctions – Failure to comply with sanction(s) imposed under the Code of Student Conduct.
