About This Program
From climate change to environmental justice, this interdisciplinary degree addresses a wide range of environmental concerns. You’ll prepare for a career in research, management, government service, teaching, or other areas where you can tackle environmental problems.

Outside the Classroom
Environmental Science majors at Miles have many opportunities to learn and network outside the classroom, including coursework, internships, and research.
Intern with agencies and non-profits, such as the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Jefferson County Department of Health, and Cahaba River Society.
Perform lab analyses of soil, water, plant and air samples for environmental purposes.
Conduct research in a specific area of environmental science under faculty supervision.
Course Highlight
Environmental Science
This interdisciplinary course explores land, water, air, and living things and how they interact. You’ll be able to explore the causes, effects, and possible solutions to many environmental issues affecting the world today.
Careers in Environmental Science
Recent graduates of the Environmental Science program have pursued graduate studies in a range of fields, including environmental management, food science, environmental engineering, and public health. Other graduates are employed in government, water management, higher education, and in private companies, non-profits, and utility companies. Among the many roles you can pursue with this degree (and in some cases a higher degree) are:
