Computer and Information Sciences
The CIS program provides students with an in-depth education in the conceptual foundations of computer and information sciences and complex software and hardware systems. It allows students to explore the connections between computer and information sciences and a variety of other disciplines. Combined with a strong education in mathematics, sciences, and the liberal arts, it prepares students to be leaders in computer and information sciences practice, applications to other disciplines, and research.

Computer and Information Sciences
The Computer Information Sciences program prepares you to be at the forefront of technological advancement and innovation. Courses range from applications development to electronic commerce, and cybersecurity to healthcare technology, preparing you for careers in a range of industries, as well as entrepreneurship and graduate education. You’ll also learn to understand both the benefits and the responsibilities that technological advancement affords, so you’ll think about how you can use your skills to improve the world and contribute to a better society.
The CIS program has three concentration areas
Cybersecurity
This concentration focuses on protecting digital systems and data from cyber threats. Students learn about network security, ethical hacking, computer forensics, and disaster recovery. Graduates are prepared for roles such as security analysts, cybersecurity consultants, and information security officers.
E-Commerce
Students explore the intersection of technology and online business. Courses cover website development, electronic commerce systems, social media marketing, and database design for web applications. This track is ideal for those interested in digital entrepreneurship or managing online platforms.
Application Development
This track emphasizes software design and development. Students gain proficiency in multiple programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Ruby, C#, COBOL), mobile app development, and data structures. It prepares students for careers as software developers, app engineers, or systems analysts.
Organizations
Students are expected to join one of the science clubs or other professional associations and the graduate school club. Students are also encouraged to join the Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society. These activities will offer information relative to advanced study and preparation beyond the baccalaureate level. The division offers GRE and MCAT preparation and tutorial assistance. Students have opportunities to network with other students regionally and nationally as well as science professionals across the country. Student travel to workshops, science conferences and symposia are all benefits to be accessed by the successful matriculant. Research and critical thinking by students is highly encouraged and appropriate rewards are expected. Selected students are afforded portfolio-building opportunities, which should lead to scholarship and professional development. Every student should benefit from these programmed activities.
