Program Highlights
Miles gives you a solid foundation in all aspects of accounting:
- Learn how to use computer programs to prepare and present data, complete with charts and graphs.
- Learn business statistics as they relate to financial decision-making.
- Use data from real-world financial statements to analyze companies’ financial health and performance.
- Get a grounding in microeconomics — the study of how supply, demand, prices, and competition influence decisions and market outcomes.
Outside the Classroom
Your accounting education extends far beyond lectures and textbooks. Real-world experiences give you a competitive edge and help you build the professional network that will support your career for years to come.
Intern with local firms and corporations in the Birmingham area. The Accounting program also includes a for-credit, supervised internship.
Participate in professional organizations like the Miles chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), a nonprofit association that advances opportunities and connects Black accountants across the country.

Course Highlight
Individual Income Taxation
Learn everything you need to know in order to prepare federal income tax returns for individuals as a professional tax advisor. If you’re interested in a career as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or tax consultant, this class is where you begin learning how to navigate the massive legal and financial framework of the Internal Revenue Service to solve complex tax problems.
