From Student to Staff Member to Graduate: Miles College Alumnus Makes History
Miles College proudly congratulates JamesAaron L. Pierre, Jr. on earning his Master of Science in Management as a member of the inaugural graduate program class in the college’s history.
JamesAaron’s connection to Miles College is deeply rooted. As a second-generation Milean and proud member of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, his journey reflects a family legacy shaped by faith, education, service, and leadership. Long before he became a student, Miles College was already part of his life through his parents, both proud graduates of the institution.
That legacy also extends through Greek life on the campus of Miles College. JamesAaron became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through the Gamma Kappa Chapter, the same chapter as his father. His mother became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. through the Gamma Pi Chapter at Miles College, further deepening the family’s connection to the institution and its traditions.
His father served as a mathematics professor at Miles College, helping shape young minds through education, discipline, and care. His mother served in the Office of the President during the tenure of Dr. Albert J. Sloan II, contributing to the daily work that supported the institution’s leadership and mission. Through their example, JamesAaron gained an early understanding of Miles College as a place where students are challenged, developed, and prepared to lead.
As a student, JamesAaron embraced opportunities to serve and contribute to campus life. He served as Vice President of the Pre-Alumni Council and Junior Class President, experiences that helped strengthen his interest in alumni engagement, institutional advancement, and leadership. During his junior year, alongside several classmates, he helped establish the Miles College Golf Team, creating an opportunity for future Golden Bears to compete and grow through the sport.
Years later, that early connection to golf would come full circle through his work with the annual Legacy Golf Tournament at Greystone, powered by Katt Williams. Launched in 2025, the tournament raises funds for Miles College students while bringing alumni, community partners, and supporters of the college together for a meaningful cause.
JamesAaron also interned in the Office of Development while attending Miles College. That experience introduced him to fundraising, donor relations, and advancement work, helping shape the professional path he continues today. Now serving as Director of Alumni and External Affairs, his work represents a full-circle connection to the institution that helped develop him.
In his role, JamesAaron has helped lead alumni engagement and fundraising efforts that continue to move Miles College forward. He founded the Top 50 Alumni Initiative, formerly known as the 50 Under 50 Awards, which has generated more than $200,000 in alumni support and helped reconnect a new generation of leaders to the college.
JamesAaron has also helped advance significant corporate and community investments for Miles College, including assisting with a historic $250,000 contribution from Brasfield & Gorrie to support institutional priorities and student success. His work has strengthened relationships with elected officials, community leaders, and corporate partners while raising the college’s visibility and impact across Alabama and beyond.
Through advocacy and strategic engagement, JamesAaron has helped position Miles College in important conversations around workforce development, economic impact, higher education investment, and community partnerships. He has also played a role in advancing partnerships that expand opportunities for students, including work connected to bringing NVIDIA to Miles College and creating pathways for students to engage with emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and the future of work.
JamesAaron also helped facilitate the partnership between Miles College and Katt Williams and his production network, creating new opportunities for student exposure, creative industry engagement, and national visibility for the institution. That relationship has continued to support efforts that connect philanthropy, student opportunity, and institutional visibility.
Another meaningful part of his work includes supporting and coordinating efforts that allowed the Miles College Choir to travel and perform at Carnegie Hall. That opportunity gave students the chance to represent Miles College on one of the world’s most respected stages.
JamesAaron earned his undergraduate degree during the administration of Dr. George T. French Jr., a time when students were encouraged to lead boldly and think beyond limitations. Years later, watching his brother graduate under the leadership of President Bobbie Knight became another proud chapter in his family’s Miles College story. Now, under President Knight’s historic leadership, he has earned his Master of Science in Management as part of the inaugural graduate program class in Miles College history.
This achievement represents more than another degree. It is a continuation of a family legacy grounded in faith, education, leadership, and service. From his time as a student to his current role as a member of the college’s leadership team, JamesAaron’s journey reflects the lasting impact of a Miles College education.
Miles College celebrates JamesAaron L. Pierre, Jr. for this milestone and for his continued commitment to the institution, its alumni, and the generations of Golden Bears who will follow.
Miles College will forever be a part of who I am,” he said. “I will forever be grateful to be called a Golden Bear.
