STATEMENT FROM MILES COLLEGE ON
THE DEATH OF FORMER SENATOR EDWARD “E.B.” MCCLAIN
Historic Miles College joins the state of Alabama in mourning the loss of former State Senator Edward “E.B.” McClain who transitioned last night.
Senator McClain received his bachelor’s degree ‘83 in chemistry from Miles College and was an amazing advocate for the school. While serving in the legislature, Senator McClain added a strong voice to the Education Budget Committee and was instrumental in ensuring that the college received state funding for our graduate extension program.
A longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church in Fairfield and a dedicated member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Senator McClain was born on April 29, 1940, in Jefferson County, and served four terms in the Alabama State Senate after serving two consecutive terms in the Alabama House of Representatives. Senator McClain chaired the powerful Confirmations Committee that confirmed all of the members appointed and nominated to state boards by the Governor. In addition, Senator McClain also was the chair of the Business and Labor Committee and championed issues around energy and natural resources, finance and taxation as well as tourism and marketing.
We extend our condolences to Senator McClain’s wife Eloise and his children Edward, Jr., Kevin, Kim, and April.
