Miles College Student Interns at White House
When Leah Graves arrived at Miles to start her freshman year of college, she said she was just a girl with the gift of gab who loved to talk. At Miles, the faculty and staff showed her how to use those skills for personal growth. “Miles is like my Christopher Columbus experience,” she said. “It’s a new world for me now.” Graves said she didn’t know what all was in store for her when she decided to attend Miles, but when she made a campus visit, she left with a lasting impression and a strong hint of what would come in her years at the institution. “They knew the students by name, and they paid attention to every detail for my family,” she said. In her years at Miles College, Graves has traveled to study abroad in Egypt, and in fall 2011, she had the opportunity of a lifetime, spending the semester on an internship in the U.S. Office of Public Engagement, headed by Valerie Jarret, senior advisor and assistant to President Barack Obama. She plans to attend law school after graduation.
