Position Description

 
 Position: Director of Development 
Reports to: Vice President of Institutional Advancement 
Duties and responsibilities: 
The Director of Development will foster an active planned giving program to provide a significant and growing percentage of funds to the overall annual fundraising and comprehensive campaign goals. 
Other responsibilities include: promote and secure corporate and major gifts, estate and legacy giving, including the cultivation and stewardship for the College’s established giving societies. Assist in the planning and creation of planned giving marketing materials, including brochures, newsletters, website and all targeted communications both printed and electronic; Collaborate with the Advancement team to integrate planned, major and corporate giving into the cultivation and solicitation cycle for major donors and their families. Serve as in-house planned/estate giving expert, provide training, ensure accurate recording and administration of all planned gift vehicles and keep guidelines and gift acceptance policies for planned gifts up-to-date; Work effectively with donors, prospects, their advisors and attorneys to finalize gift terms and transfer of assets to Miles. 
Conduct donor/prospect visits; Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major, deferred and estate gift donors through face-to-face visits and educational seminars. Work closely with the Advancement team to conduct prospective donor research and identify untapped constituencies; Prepare timely contact reports and develop next steps within the moves management process; Maintain stewardship contacts with donors, adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate empathetic disposition and perseverance reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivities to the needs and interests of donors. Further establish corporate donor interest and perform other required duties as needed. 
Qualifications 
The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and a working knowledge of related finance/law. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of experience in major, corporate and planned gift prospect identification, cultivation and solicitation preferable in higher education or equivalent transferable skill. Campaign experience and a proven track record of closing major/planned gifts; Experience with gift planning vehicles, IRS regulations, estate planning, investment strategies and an ability to evaluate and close complex gift arrangements; Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to achieve results in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collegial office environment.
