Position Description




Miles, Athletics, full-time to begin approximately July 1 2018. The Miles College Head Basketball Coach leads, organizes, prepares implements and manages quality assurance for all aspects of the men’s basketball program. She/He is an integral member of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff team and reports directly to the Director of Athletics or designee in the AD’s absence. 


Executes all responsibilities as Head Coach in a manner that reflects an ongoing commitment to the excellence, integrity and success of the Men’s Basketball Program, of the Department of Athletics, and Miles College; prepares and organizes daily practice sessions, game preparation for competition and off-season training; recommends and prepares all schedules for away and home competition; organizes and directs the coaching staff to carry out the goals and objectives of the men’s basketball program; organizes and administers the recruiting of prospective student-athletes in accordance with the NCAA, SIAC and Miles College policies and procedures. 

Responsibly expends allocated budget and ensures that the budget balances each fiscal year; implements appropriate risk management strategies at all times; engages in regular consultation with sports training department personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes; and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of student-athletes at all times; recommends scholarship awards for student-athletes to the Director of Athletics; responsible for tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes, and for working collaboratively with the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance in this regard; responsible for monitoring and supporting the student-athletes academic progress; responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NCAA as it relates to the men’s basketball program; responsible for assisting and supporting the Department of Athletics in administration and operations; prepares and participates in camps and clinics as needed; actively participates and assists in promotional, marketing, public relations and fundraising activities for the program in the community, schools, and the College campus; provides general advising, mentoring and support to student-athletes; role models and engages in ethical decision-making and outstanding sportsmanship; demonstrates through actions and communicates a respect for diversity and cross-cultural differences; perform other duties as required. 

Desirable Qualifications 

Possess a Master’s degree; minimum of five years collegiate coaching experience or any equivalent combination of education and training experience; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with the general public, College community, and the athletic community; and experience working in multi-cultural environment; demonstrated experience in the recruitment of student-athletes; demonstrated experience in budgetary management; possess thorough knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations; demonstrate ability to monitor and supervise subordinate professionals and students; demonstrate ability to develop a highly competitive basketball program; and participated as a student-athlete on the post-secondary level.
