Computer and Information Science Instructor
Miles College is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and collegial full-time Computer and Information Science instructor with a strong commitment to the mission of the college. This is a nine-month, tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for undergraduate classroom. The selected candidate will provide quality and engaging instruction in all delivery methods and formats within specific academic programs; provide timely and meaningful feedback to students regarding the mastery of course and program learning outcomes; engage students outside of class in support of the curriculum and co-curriculum; provide institutional support and community service; participate meaningfully in student retention and completion initiatives; support the College's mission and strategic plan initiatives; conform to regional expectations of faculty performance and engagement. The selected candidate will support student success through the application and understanding of materials, pedagogies, assessment methods and feedback techniques that are effective within a diverse population. Collaboration with faculty and staff in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division and other units to develop strategies to increase student persistence and retention is an essential part of the job. The successful candidate will also participate in professional development experiences, keep abreast of research, developments in pedagogy and methodology in teaching the above-mentioned courses, and participate in college committees. Selected candidate must maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students. Teaching load will be 4 to 5 courses per year, depending on advising and service load.
Ph.D. in Computer Science or allied field or master's degree with substantial teaching experience at the college/university level
Strong written and oral communication skills in English to interact with students of varying diverse backgrounds
Have outstanding credentials that clearly demonstrate their ability and commitment to undergraduate teaching
Be knowledgeable about national curriculum trends in computer science education
Actively participate in division recruitment and retention efforts.
Successful candidates must show that they will be able to effectively teach a wide selection of computer science courses.
A commitment to the ideals of a liberal arts education required
Must have the ability to work with diverse populations through experiences such as formal training and past work experiences
The ability to provide quality customer service
Strong organizational and management skills
Official transcripts will be required at time of interview. Candidates with experience in computer and internet-assisted instruction will be given preference. A criminal background check will be conducted.
