W.A.R.N. Alert System
Miles “WARNME” is an emergency web-based notification service that provides faculty, staff and students with timely information and instructions during emergencies or other urgent situations that may directly affect their well-being. Miles “WARNME” can send messages to the College community by e-mail, telephone, cell phone, text messaging (SMS) and TTY. Messages can be sent to one or all devices anywhere and anytime. Participation is voluntary but strongly encouraged. In a life-threatening situation, everyone needs to have the ability to be warned.
Miles “WARNME” is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Faculty, staff and students can enroll or edit their contact information anytime of the day or night. To log-in you will need your student or employee number and Miles College email address. Click on the W.A.R.N. Alert symbol located on the main page of the Miles College website towards the bottom of the page or by going to the following site: http://www.warnsignup.com/miles/.

1.What qualifies as an emergency?
Emergencies are unplanned events that can cause physical injury to our students, faculty, staff, or the public, cause physical or environmental damage, or that can disrupt and damage our research or educational operations. Emergencies include: Tornado or other severe weather, Fire, Bomb Threat, Civil Disturbance or Chemical Spill/Hazard
2.What number should I provide in order to receive the alerts?
Since the Miles “WARNME” system will be used to notify you in case of an emergency situation, the College strongly recommends that you provide contact information for you, the student or employee, and the number at which you are most likely to receive a message at any time of day or night, such as your cell phone number/text.
3.How many phone numbers can I enter into the Miles “WARNME” system?
Currently, you can select your preference for a text or voice message or chose both text and voice. You also can enter two different numbers, email addresses, or enter the same number twice if you would like to have both a text and voice message sent to the same phone. There are five different devices listed for contact information.
4.Can my parents or family members sign up for the alerts?
No, currently you must be a Miles College faculty, staff or student to subscribe to the “WARNME” service.
5.Do I need to download software on my phone or PDA in order to receive the alerts?
No, the “WARNME” system uses standard industry SMS text and text-to-voice messaging protocol. Your wireless device and your plan will need to accommodate text messages to work properly.
6.When will I start receiving alerts?
Your subscription generally becomes active a few hours after you sign up and turn the notification on. The rapid text and voice alert system, however, will be used only in the case of imminent danger or a serious threat to the campus community. However, a “TEST” alert will be sent to your devices once a semester.
7.Do I need to reply to the text or call a number to acknowledge receipt of the message?
No. In the case of an emergency, you need to follow the instructions given as part of the message. Your first priority should be your safety. The “WARNME” call may ask you to verify that it is you by pressing a number.
8.Will my phone number and personal information be used for other purposes?
No, the contact information that you enter into the “WARNME” directory will only be provided to W.A.R.N. for the explicit purposes of notifying you in the event of an emergency. W.A.R.N. does not have rights to sell, disclose or trade your contact information or to use it for any purpose other than notifying you via the “WARNME” rapid notification service. Only the individuals employed by the university who must use this information to administer and manage the Miles “WARNME” system will have access to your contact information.
9.How do I enroll to receive alerts?
To enroll or edit contact information in the Miles “WARNME” Alert system, you will need two things: (1) your student or employee number, and (2) your Miles College email address.
Go to the Campus Life Page of the Miles College website www.miles.edu and click on the WARN Alert System under Navigation sidebar.
This will take you to the Emergency Notifications sign on page. Choose the option to “Opt In” or “Edit Your Information”. This will take you to the sign-in page.
Enter your student or employee number and Miles email address and hit Log-in you will automatically be directed to the Emergency Notification Sign-Up Form.
There are five (5) options for contacting you. Choose whether you want to receive a text, voice message, email, etc. and fill in the appropriate phone number and/or email address, etc. You must be a Miles College faculty, staff or student to subscribe to the service.
Click to “Submit Changes”- After you click Submit Changes, a message will appear before your log-out that says “Your Changes were Saved Successfully”
Finally, click “Log-Out”. A box will appear that says, “Be sure that you submit your changes before logging out of the system. This will ensure that you have saved your changes to the emergency notification system.” Click OK.
