Meet Miss Miles College
Jarian Laria Waller, your 80th Miss Miles College 2016-2017. was born and raised in the metropolitan area of Memphis, Tennessee Before beginning her journey at Miles College, she graduated with honors at Whitehaven High School. Currently, she is a graduating senior majoring in Biology. She is a member of various organizations on campus which include: the Honors Curriculum, Miles College Choir, and Beta Kappa Chi National Science Honor Society.
She has learned that faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in due time. As Langston Hughes would say, “Life for me ain’t been no crystal stair!” When life’s transgressions come her way and try to stop her, through God’s grace and mercy she perseveres. Every day she progresses to be like her idol, her grandmother, Miss Connie B. Mitchell! She was a lady of many talents and a genuine human being. One thing she taught Jarian was to never take any wooden nickels and always be one step ahead. July 28, 2015 opened her eyes to view the world in every aspect. Jarian aspires to be like her grandmother each day; because her grandmother emphasized to her that there is not a limit on what the world has to offer; you have to put in the “elbow grease” to attain your goals!
Jarian’s platform is S.T.R.I.V.E, which stands for shaping the robust idealist veering excellence. That means your dreams are attainable, no matter the circumstance, as long as you stand firm on God's word. Her desire is for every young man or woman to know that hard work and determination will get you where you want to go. S.T.R.I.V.E. is also based upon her institution, Miles College because it sets the bar for its students to have that drive to go where eyes have not seen, what no ears have heard, and what no human mind has conceived.
