Miss Lawrence has also traveled abroad to Israel with various organizations. This opportunity has provided her with a diverse outlook on life and leadership.
Miss Lawrence ran on the platform “Make This House Your Home”. She expressed that a house is just a building made out of brick and mortar; however, a home is where you feel loved and you feel like you belong.
Miles has been my utmost saving grace. I cherish, love, and value Miles for the hidden gem that she is. I can only hope that you grow to feel this way. I am excited that you chose Miles to be your home. It is your responsibility to make it your home. There are a couple things you need to remember in order to make the best of your time here at Dear Old Miles:
1) Know that you are more than what can ever be defined.
Whatever negative thoughts that come from you, your parents, or society… forget them; College is a clean slate. You are able to become whoever you want to be. Psalm 139: 14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” I believe that every person on this earth has a gift and a talent given to them by our Heavenly Father. However, it’s up to you on whether or not you believe in yourself and your talents.
2) Show up and show out.
Half the battle is showing up. Get out of your room, get involved with an organization, and make a change. Miles is a very intimate institution. With that being said, it does not take much to get involved. You can even start your own club or organization. In whatever you do, give it your all.
3) Be that person that stands out in the crowd.
Attitude is everything in life. In a world where something is always wrong, look on the brightside. There is always one, you just have to be willing to look hard enough to find it.
Finally, know that I am always here for you; a room, floor, or a dorm away.
