Through
the Music Program, Miles College offers two degrees
in music – the Bachelor of Music Education and
the Bachelor of Arts in Music.
The
Bachelor of Music Education prepares the student to
teach music at the P-12 level in public schools. The
Bachelor of Music Education has two tracks:
• Bachelor of Music Education -- Instrumental
• Bachelor of Music Education -- Choral
The
Bachelor of Music Education –- Instrumental
(MEI) leads to certification to teach P-12 music and
is designed for future band directors.
The
Bachelor of Music Education -- Choral (MEC) leads
to certification to teach P-12 music and is designed
for future choir directors.

The
Bachelor of Arts in Music addresses the needs of students
desiring a broad-based approach to music in the context
of a liberal arts education. Through music electives,
the Senior Project, the Music Internship, and through
the cognate, which can either be a traditional minor
or a collection of courses decided upon by advisor
and advisee, the Bachelor of Arts in Music major can
pursue interests in performance, music composition,
music business, church music, and music criticism.
While
the Bachelor of Arts in Music accommodates a variety
of musical and professional interests, the degree
is not intended to substitute for a professional degree
in music. Inquiry, rather than professional credentialing,
defines the Bachelor of Arts in Music.
