The
mission of the Director of Sponsored Programs is to assist with the acquisition
and management of external funds for programs and research consistent with the
strategic direction outlined through the Miles College Mission Statement. |

| Sponsored
Programs Officer’s Duties |
|
- Monitor proposals
for compliance with sponsoring agency and the College, accuracy of budgetary and
administrative information, assisting with preparation as necessary including
completion of College and funding agency forms.
- Administer non-financial
components of externally funded projects including post-award revisions, rebudgeting,
no-cost extensions, periodic and final reporting, subcontracts and close-out documentation.
- Locate potential
funding sources
- Assure compliance
between funding agency and the College
- Guide faculty
through the grant application process
- Route proposals
through the proper administrative channels
- Establish the
award management process
- Coordinate research
partnerships, collaboratives, and cooperative agreements
- Assist with patents,
copyrights, publication agreements, and inventions
- Administer research
grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements
- Monitor equipment
acquisition provided through federal grants and contracts funds
- Assist with preparation
of reports on grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements
- Route request
for funds through the proper administrative channels
- Perform other
duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Planning and Development
- Maintain current
knowledge and expertise in federal, state, and other agency regulations and policies
and OMB circulars that affect sponsored program activities.
- Assist in providing
training for the College community in preparing proposals, identifying potential
sponsors, and in changes in institutional policies and sponsor application and
project management guidelines

The
Miles College Office of Sponsored Programs is located in the Office of Institutional
Planning and Development. |
|
The
Director of Sponsored Programs is responsible for the following duties: |

Director of Sponsored Programs must be familiar with the following federal regulations
and publications: |

and Statements from major federal funding agencies such as the NSF, NIH, DoD,
and NASA.

The
Director of Sponsored Programs serves as a support to campus research and programs
in pre award activities of identifying potential funding and routing proposals
to post award activities of establishing accounts and submitting interim project
reports. |

The
Director of Sponsored Programs is the liaison between the project director and
the institution and the sponsoring federal agency. In the event a sponsor requires
institutional endorsement or other formal acceptance of an award document, grant
agreement or contract, the Office of Sponsored Programs will obtain appropriate
institutional endorsements. |

Copies
of all information for a specific sponsored project from the submitted application
to correspondence about the program, should be maintained in the Office of Sponsored
Programs. While it is understood that sometimes events will prevent it from being
optimal to do so, any proposal to be submitted by the College should be completed
and ready for review at least one week prior to the due date. This will insure
that there are no typographical errors and that all attachments and assurances
are in place before the proposal is submitted. No proposal should be submitted
from the College without having first been reviewed by the Office of Sponsored
Programs. |

Proposals
can be sent via US Mail, UPS, or Fed Ex. They can also be hand delivered if necessary.
The Office of Sponsored Programs requests that the most cost-effective measure
be taken in the submission of proposals. |
