Return of Title IV Funds – Withdrawal Information

Policy: Federal and State Financial Aid – Students who are withdrawing.

Records show that you are withdrawing from the college. Federal Regulations require that you be informed of the following items:

1.0
Any aid which you were scheduled to receive prior to the withdrawal will be cancelled per Regulations of the U. S. Department of Education (e.g. if you withdraw during the Fall Semester your Spring aid will be cancelled). You must reapply to have financial aid reinstated (Check with the Financial Aid Office). The aid awarded, following the withdrawal, may not be the same as the aid you received prior to the withdrawal.

2.0
Standards of Measurable Academic Progress – All recipients of federal and State Aid must meet the Standards of Measurable Academic Progress. The law requires that you pass a specific number of hours, maintain a specific grade point average and not be in the pursuit of a degree for more than 1.5 percent of the time required to receive a degree as stated in the college’s catalog. You may reference the Standards of Measurable Academic Progress in the Miles College catalog on pages 34 and 35 and in the Code of Federal Regulations as CFR668 Section 668.16 and 668.34.

3.0
Withdrawals – When you withdraw during your period of enrollment, the amount of SFA Program assistance that you have earned up to that point is determined by a specific formula. If you received less assistance than the amount that you earned, you may be able to receive those additional funds. If you received more assistance than you earned, the excess funds must be returned by the school and/or you.

The amount of assistance that you have earned is determined on a pro rata basis. For example, if you complete 30 percent of your payment period of enrollment, you earn 30 percent of the assistance you were originally scheduled to receive. Once you have completed more than 60 percent of the payment period or period of enrollment, you earned all of the assistance that you were scheduled to receive.

If you fail to earn enough money to cover your bill it will become your responsibility to pay the remaining amount form your own resources (Reference 34 Code of Federal Regulations 668.22.
