Position Statement
The Head Men’s Basketball Coach is responsible for the conduct and overall supervision of the basketball program; must have knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance, as well as effective communication, leadership skills and positive student-athlete, campus community, alumni and athletics department relations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree is beneficial; must have 3-5 years of experience coaching basketball at a college and/or university, and/or professional level.
Essential Job Summary:
- Ability to successfully recruit highly skilled student-athletes for the men's basketball team.
- Ability to effectively teach fundamentals of basketball during on-the-floor practice sessions.
- Must be able to motivate teams to become successful.
- Ability to cooperate, get along and work well with members of the community, supervisors, and other employees of the College.
- Ability to effectively supervise personnel and complete all associated personnel actions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to plan and direct fund raising campaigns which enhance the private fund-raising efforts associated with the athletic program in coordination with the director of athletics.
- Ability to comply with all policies and regulations of the College, the SIAC Conference and NCAA.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports; manage the budgets for men’s basketball
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for carrying out all practices necessary to accomplish the objectives of this sport within the guidelines of the NCAA, SIAC Conference and the College.
- Responsible for recruiting highly skilled student-athletes for the men's basketball team.
- Responsible for orienting student athletes to the policies and regulations of the College Department of Athletics, SIAC, and NCAA.
- Monitors academic progress of members of the basketball team.
- Responsible for public relations in support of the basketball program.
- Selects, supervises and evaluates assistant basketball coaches.
- Oversees conduct and discipline of student athletes; Counsels student athletes in sport participation and develops, motivates, and assists in the pursuit of academic/athletic excellence;
- Works with the Admissions Office in enrollment of student-athletes;
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
